Interview with Katie Hanson, Former Miss Delaware, voted off Survivor:

This week on Survivor after a controversial trade that resulted in the Kalabaw tribe sending all of their rice to Tandang in exchnage for sandwiches, the tribe ended up deciding to vote out the former Miss Delaware, Katie Hanson, from the tribe. Rob Cesternino spoke with Katie to discuss her time onSurvivor Philippines.

Rob starts off by talking about the highly tense tribal council where somebody was going to be blindsided. Katie said she didn’t understand why the tribe would want to keep returning playerJonathan Penner, especially because he had the hidden immunity idol in his possession. Rob felt like it was a good move to keep Penner because he is somebody who is going to attract a lot of heat after the merge and could provide protection for Jeff Kent and for Carter Williams. Rob thinks the best move would have been for the tribe to get rid of Denise Stapley because she could very easily flip after the merge. However, Katie points out that Denise claimed that she was going to be able to get Malcolm Freberg to flip over to Kalabaw after the merge.

Rob asked Katie about her experience playing with former Major League second baseman, Jeff Kent. Katie said that she was very surprised to hear that Jeff Kent was an athlete because he didn’t look like somebody who was in such great shape though Katie said that his performance in the challenge was great. Rob asked is Carter Williams had always been this whiny throughout the game and she said that Carter had been the main target of the women’s alliance on Kalabaw. Katie even said that she wasn’t that hungry until Carter kept talking about how hungry he was getting. Katie said that she doesn’t respect the game that Carter is playing of just following Jeff Kent around throughout the game.

Finally, Rob wanted to know why Jeff Probst was on Katie’s case so much during the last few challenges. Katie discussed some of the reasons behind her struggles in last weeks challenge between the freezing rain and the oppressive heat, she had a hard time adjusting.

When it was first announced that former major league baseball player, Jeff Kent was going to be on the current season of Survivor… we knew that there would be nobody better suited to give us analysis that ESPN.com’s AJ Mass – author of the book “How Fantasy Sports Explains the World“. Rob talks with AJ and asks him about his performance so far through five episodes of Survivor Philippines. Rob is curious about the playing career of Jeff Kent and asks if AJ believes that Jeff Kent will someday be a major league Hall of Famer. AJ thinks that while Jeff Kent was a very good ballplayer, he was not ever dominant enough for a long period of time and compiled a lot of his stats over his career.

Rob and AJ then go through the remaining player in the Survivor Philippines game and attempt to match them up to the ideal 12 archetypes that AJ out lines in “How Fantasy Sports Explains the World“. Those twelves archetypes are:

Boston Rob Mariano from Survivor Marquesas, Survivor All-Stars, Survivor Heroes vs. Villains and the season that made him a winner, Survivor Redemption Island joins Rob Cesternino is the most extensive interview of Boston Rob’s Survivor career. Rob Cesternino starts by talking with Boston Rob about Survivor Philippines and his take on whether he likes the three tribe format of the game. Boston Rob has played many different variations of the game, including Survivor All-Stars where there were also three tribes. Two legends of both reality TV and Spreecast join forces on a mist filled edition of Rob Has a Web Show. Rob Cesternino and Dan Gheesling begin the evening by recalling Dan’s history with Spreecast well before Rob’s stint. Rob starts by asking Dan about how he came up with his now famous Funeral. Dan says he had the idea in his head from before he went into solitary confinement. He tells a story of an emotional moment he had before the Veto competition which led him to hatch the idea. Dan talks about life outside the Big Brother house and the reception he’s received from fans. He says one out of every twenty e-mails will be a hate filled rant, but he takes amusement in just how angry the trolls can be. Rob and Dan both agree that it’s easy to turn a hater due to their intense passion for something one way or the other. Rob Cesternino asks Dan Gheesling about his post-game relationships with some of his fellow cast members, including Danielle Murphree who was very upset with Dan in her finale interview. Dan breaks down the press interviews with Ian and Danielle the day after the show. Everyone was friendly with each other at the start of the day, but by the end of it Danielle wouldn’t even look at Dan. Rob thinks that while Dan may have done a few bad things to Danielle, at the end of the day he was a key reason she made it as far as she did. Dan says he’s on good terms with winner Ian Terry in spite of the hurt feelings Ian had during his jury speech. Dan feels the bond he formed with Ian was so close he felt the jury would have hated him more for voting him out in the final three than Danielle. Rob Cesternino and Dan Gheesling then get to some video questions. Rob shows Dan his impression of Eagle Eye Joe Arvin. Dan is asked what he’d add to his book How to Get on Reality TV after a second stint in the house and he says while he’d have to reflect on it he thinks secrecy is a big part of the casting process he left out. Dan says the last five days of this past season was the hardest part of his entire Big Brother experience. When asked about what would have happened had the coaches stuck together he says he doesn’t think he could have pulled off the impressive moves he made in the second half of the game with Janelle Pierzina and Mike Boogie Malin still in the house, but he would have liked to have worked with Janelle due to her challenge skills. Rob talks about the anti-Dan sentiment coming from previous Big Brother players. Rob thinks the bitterness stemmed from the fact that Dan Gheesling got so much praise for his game, especially from Julie Chen herself. He says he had a lot of support from sharp players like Matt Hoffman. Dan acknowledges the comparison between himself and Russell Hantz and says he has a lot of respect for Russell’s game and thinks he’s a revolutionary player in the current Survivor era. In the first Ding Marry Kill of the night, Dan surprisingly chooses to marry Willie Hantz over a life time of cooking from chef Joe Arvin. Dan says he and Willie shared some interesting conversations in the house and conversation is key to a good marriage. Shane Meanie is declared the easiest Ding of all time. Live feed correspondent SnideSnidington asks one of the most pressing questions of the evening…what exactly did Dan think of The Dark Knight Rises. Dan was very pleased with the end of the Batman trilogy and draws some links between the story in The Dark Knight Rises and his personal journey in Big Brother 14. Dan is asked what would happen if Kara Monnaco stayed in the game over Frank Eundy in week two. Dan says he had a relationship with Kara similar to Memphis Garrett in that the two of them were both very logical and could have worked together well. Rob asks Dan about a recent tweet from Dr. Will Kirby. Dan says that while he and Will respect each other’s games, he doesn’t like how Dr. Will embraces the persona that he’s above Big Brother. Rob Cesternino moves into some RHAPid-fire questions starting with asking Dan if he expected Danielle Murphree to get amount of hate that followed her in the fan community. Dan says he was very surprised she was so disliked and thought she’d be in the middle of the pack in terms of popularity. Dan looks in the rear view mirror and decides the pivotal moment which cost him the half million was not bringing Jenn Arroyo to the final two. Dan says hands down his ideal Amazing Race partner would be Memphis Garrett. Had he gotten the chance to chose a player in the third round of the draft, Dan would have chosen Jenn despite her invisible edit. Finally Dan says Janelle Pierzina would have easily been Renegade material had she made it deeper in the game.

Since the calendar has turned to October, it’s almost time for Halloween. Matt Hoffman is the world’s biggest Halloween fan and creator of the year’s biggest Halloween party, Hoff-O-Ween. Who better to discuss a movie about a witch this month, 1989′s cult classic “Teen Witch”.

The film stars Robin Lively as Louise, a down and out high school girl who is totally unpopular and hopelessly in love with one of her classmates, Brad (played by Dan Gauthier). On a day when Louise is coming home from school, Louise is run off the road while riding her bicycle by Brad. She ends up looking to use the phone at Madame Selena’s palm reading parlor and meets Madame Selena (played by Poltergeist’s Zelda Rubenstein). Madame Selena tells Louise that she is actually a witch and will start to experience her witch powers on her 16th birthday.

Sure enough, the following week, Louise is able to experience some magical powers that she uses to do things like attract the attention of Brad, turn her brother into a dog and of course, become the most popular girl in her high school. As Louise starts to become more popular she realizes that she now has other problems including the loss of her best friend, Polly and uncertainty if people actually are liking her for herself or because of the magic spells that have been cast.

Survivor Winner Kim Spradlin Breaks Down Survivor Philippines:

On today’s edition of Rob has a Podcast, Rob Cesternino talks with Kim Spradlin, the winner ofSurvivor One World. Rob talks at length with Kim about how she went about playing such a dominant game in her season and her opinions on this season of survivor, Survivor Philippines.

Before the Survivor talk, Rob asks Kim about her recent engagement and his fears that Kim’s fiance may just be after her million dollar winnings from Survivor One World. Kim assures Rob that is not the case and Rob and Kim begin talking about the downfall of Roxy Morris from the Matsing tribe on this week’s show. Rob asks Kim about the showmance that has developed between Angie Layton andMalcolm Freberg. Kim says that she was able to resist the Survivor showmance by just cuddling with the women in her alliance during the game.

Rob asks Kim about the search for the immunity idol from both Jonathan Penner and from RC Saint-Amour. For Penner, Rob and Kim discuss whether the hunt to find the idol was worth it if the ultimate price was being at a social disadvantage with the tribe. As for RC, she found the clue to the hidden immunity idol and shared with Abi-Maria Gomes. However, when Abi-Maria saw RC talking to Mike Skupin, they quickly ended up in a fight.

Yul Kwon Discusses the Return of Jonathan Penner on Survivor Philippines:

After a long summer vacation, Survivor is finally back with the premiere of Survivor Philippines. Rob Cesternino talks with the winner of Survivor Cook Islands and host of the PBS Series “America Revealed”, Yul Kwon. Yul has been watching this season with a keen eye since his former tribemate, Jonathan Penner is one of this season’s returning players along with Mike Skupin from Survivor: The Australian Outback and Russell Swan from Survivor Samoa. Rob asked Yul about Penner’s start to the game in which his tribemates seem to resent the fact that he is a returning player. The person leading the charge against Penner is former major league baseball all-star second baseman, Jeff Kent. Furthering Penner’s problems has been his distance from the tribe to look for the hidden immunity idol. Yul thinks that while Penner is in a bad spot to start the game, he thinks that Jonathan will be able to rebound and form a solid alliance within his tribe. Yul said that he and Jonathan have discussed some of the mistakes made by Penner in his earlier seasons and feels like Penner will be able to correct the early mistakes here. Yul thought that former “Facts of Life” star, Lisa Whelchel, was struggling to get her game going on the right foot as well. Her only saving grace might be that Mike Skupin is actually a huge fan of the “The Facts of Life”. It also turns out that Yul is a big fan of “The Facts of Life” but not as much as he is a fan of Ann B. Davis from “The Brady Bunch”. In the Matsing tribe, Yul did not think Russell Swan got off to a very good start either. Russell tried to deny being the leader of the group but his leadership tendencies were just way too strong to overcome. Meanwhile, Zane Knight’s plan to tell the tribe to vote him off ended up backfiring when they took him up on their offer. Yul believed that Zane telling the tribe that Russell Swan may have the idol could have been a nail in his coffin. Rob felt that it was way too early for the tribe to lose a strong physical threat like Russell Swan from the game. Yul also had positive things to say about Malcolm Freberg, but Yul wondered if he may too be cocky. Yul also made note several times of what a good looking Survivor Malcolm is in the game. Later, Yul answered a number of questions from the listeners of Rob Has a Podcast about both Survivor Philippines and Yul’s own experience in Survivor Cook Islands. Yul discussed under what circumstances he would want to play Survivor again, the proper etiquette for playing Survivor with a Celebrity and who would do better on Survivor between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. One of the greatest Big Brother players of all-time as well as one of the all time fan favorites, Janelle Pierzina was evicted from the Big Brother house. On the morning after her eviction, Janelle spoke with Rob Cestenino about her time in the Big Brother 14 house.

While Janelle started the game as a coach, she found herself as a player in the game after last week’s big twist where America gave the coaches the opportunity to step into the game. When Danielle won HOH, it looked as though the coast was clear for Janelle, but after Mike Boogie spoke to Frank, he came up with a plan to get Janelle out of the house. With the Silent Six alliance formed, Danielle nominated Janelle at the the veto ceremony to backdoor her. Thursday night, Janelle was evicted from the Big Brother house with only Joe voting for her to stay.

Willie Hantz was the breakout star of Big Brother 14, that is until his arch rival Frank won the HOH and Willie was looking eviction square in the face. After Janelle made him a have not, Willie went on a rampage head butting Joe and throwing Pork Rinds at Janelle.

Alison Grodner called Willie to the diary room and Willie Hantz was removed from the game. Big Brother 14 won’t be the same, so we want to make one last tribute to the Hantz That We Used to Know - A parody of the Gotye song “Somebody That I Used to Know”

The Dark Knight Rises Review Podcast: Unanswered Batman Questions:

This weekend has been marked by the film the Dark Knight Rises in two big ways. For fans of the film, this was supposed to be all celebration for the release of “The Dark Knight Rises”, the third film in the Christopher Nolan Batman series. Unfortunately, tragedy struck on Thursday evening when a gunman took the lives of twelve filmgoers and injured seventy-one at a screening of the film in Aurora, Colorado.

Rob is joined by John Norton, host of “The Tribe” podcast and the “MetroBuzz” podcast to discuss the film trilogy and specifically “The Dark Knight”

Rob and Jon discuss many of the films plot points which revolve around and older and physically worn down Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale). Bruce Wayne now is a reclusive shut in who walks with a cane (not Michael Cain). In the films opening minutes, we are introduced to Catwoman, played by the very talented Anne Hathaway. She is a cat burglar who is trained as a safe cracker who steals Bruce Wayne’s pearl necklace as well as his fingerprints. Rob wants to know if the character of Catwoman was a lesbian in the film? Rob thought that she was supposed to be while John strongly disagrees.

The main foe that Batman grapples with in the film is Bane (Tom Hardy). After Bane and Batman finally meet in the film, Bane sends Batman to live in the same prison that Bane grew up in. Rob and John both agree that this was the weakest part of the film where Bruce Wayne struggles to attempt to escape from the prison a number of times. What’s unclear is what is Bane’s ultimate endgame in the film. Bane takes over Gotham city and attempts to overthrow all of the fatcats and help out the little guy. There are echoes of the 99 percenters and Occupy Wall Street to what Bane attempts to do. However, Bane simultaneously arms an atomic bomb which could destroy Gotham City. Rob and John try to figure out what Bane is really trying to do since he makes no efforts to escape from the blast radius.

Rob wonders if Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle could really work as a couple after the film ends. Rob doesn’t believe so because he thinks that Selina has already demonstrated herself to be untrustworthy to Bruce Wayne and thinks this does not bode well for the future of the relationship. Plus, Rob reminds everybody that Bruce Wayne is completely broke from the debacle at the stock market. Not to mention, Bruce Wayne is supposed to be dead and left everything he owns to other people. Rob doesn’t think this is a good combination and may result in the pair being involved with crime.

Rob and John discuss how the third film in the movie trilogy may have been different if not for the tragic death of Heath Ledger. The Joker’s storyline in 2008′s “The Dark Knight” left everything very open ended in regards to the Joker. Plus, Rob and John speculate what could be next for Joseph Gordon Levitt’s character, Blake after it is revealed that his real name is Robin.

A Piranha 3DD Podcast that's an Hour Longer than Movie:

Earlier this year, Rob Cesternino and Tyson Apostol (Survivor Tocantins, Survivor Heroes vs. Villains) vowed that they would do a podcast together about the worst movie of the summer. When Piranha 3DD opened in theaters last weekend and simultaneously came out on Video on Demand, Rob and Tyson knew what would happen next. Tyson sets up the events that transpired in the first Piranha 3D film after a spring break gone horribly wrong at Lake Victoria back in 2010. Rob was actually impressed with the number of celebrities in the first piranha film including Jerry O’Connell, Elisabeth Shue, Adam Scott, Richard Dreyfuss and Christopher Lloyd.
